Sometimes I get an email that really strikes me as well done.

This cross-sell email from 1stPhorm really fits that bill!

Here’s a little bit of background on this one…

I was just about to start the 75 Hard program and was looking into supplements that might help me along.

Since the same guy (Andy Frisella) is responsible for both 75 Hard and 1st Phorm, I figured I’d check out what they had to offer.

I wound up giving their greens product a try, and that’s when it happened…

Here’s the email:

Why I Liked It…

When I sold insurance, cross-sells were all the rage.

And for good reason. It’s a fast way to increase your revenue by selling something to someone who has already demonstrated the willingness to make a purchase from you.

As an example, if someone had auto insurance, you should try to get their home/renters policy as well.

No need to acquire a new customer, just provide something they already need.

I feel like there aren’t enough e-comm companies offering cross-sell products to their buyers.

And it can get technologically complicated to set this up, but it’s totally worth it if you can pull it off.

So, back to the story…

I bought the greens product. I think I had received it and had used it for a few days by this point.

Then this email rolls in.

There are a few reasons why this works really well:

  • It’s a complementary product
  • They give enough info about it for me to decide if I’m interested in the email itself
  • I’m already a 1st Phorm buyer
  • It hasn’t been that long since I purchased from them, so I’m still a “hot” buyer

Long story short, I bought the Red product to go along with my greens.

What This Means For You

If you have products that pair well with each other, start automating follow-up sequences that offer the cross-sell.

Now that I think about it, it’s not that complicated (it’s just a little bit of extra work!)

Take some of your most popular products and set up post-purchase flows for them.

It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, a handful of emails.

Somewhere in that flow, offer the cross-sell.

Then watch the cash stack up!

I’m happy to talk with you about this, and if it’s a good fit for both of us, I can get to work writing the sequence that helps you put this into place.
